Tips For The Best Male Dog Names

If you've just adopted a new dog then you won't want to waste anytime in naming him!

There are thousands of male dog names ideas floating about so you can either use on of those or think up your very own unique name based on your dog's personality.

For many people it is a small quirk or personality trait that gives rise to a new name. Often it just pops into your head!

For example, if your dog is great at escaping then "Houdini" might come to mind. Or perhaps he is so attached to you that he feels like a "Magnet"!

Your imagination is the only thing that limits what your dog will be called.

When you are thinking of new male dog names, consider:

  • Your dog's breed
  • His personality
  • His habits and quirks
  • His size

Let's face it, there are simply some names that don't suit large dogs and vice versa. Calling your black Rottweiler "fluffy" probably won't cut it, but if you've got a little white Maltese then "fluffy" is a perfect name!

The above is a simple example of matching your dog's name with his size, looks and personality.

Another question to ask yourself is whether you prefer human names for your dog, or unique pet names.

Many people will call their dog a human name such as "Peter", "Bob" or "Robby".

Most dogs have a one syllable name. This makes it easier to call your dog from afar and of course makes it more likely that he will respond to you as he will come to recognize that word as referring to him.

Avoid long names with more than two syllables to avoid confusion.

Once you have decided upon male dog names it is time to start regularly using it so he will become accustomed to it and will be alert whenever the word is used.
