Dog Vitamins, Are They Really Necessary?


Yes! There are 14 different dog vitamins. Most are supplied in the food they eat, though some, their bodies self-manufacture. They are either fat-soulable or water-soulable.

What exactly do they do?

In a nutshell... Just like in humans, vitamins assist in the chemical reactions that help release nutrients from food. They allow those nutrients to achieve normal growth in the body.

Water-Soluble Vitamins

1. Thiamin (vitamin B1): Helps appetite and growth, needed for energy production.

2. Riboflavin (vitamin B2): Promotes growth.

3. Pyridoxine (vitamin B6): Metabolism of proteins, formation of red blood cells.

4. Pantothenic Acid: Needed for energy production, metabolism of proteins.

5. Niacin: Essential part of the many enzymes that process proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

6. Vitamin B12: Used for DNA synthesis, intestinal function.

7. Folic Acid: Works with B12, assists in body's chemical reactions.

8. Biotin: A part of essential enzyme systems.

9. Choline: Required in the nervous system for transmission of nerve impulses.

10. Vitamin C: Assists in the formation of teeth, bones, soft tissue.

Fat-Soluble Vitamins

1. Vitamin A: Vision (especially night-vision), bone growth, reproduction, tissue maintenance.

2. Vitamin D: Essential for ability to use calcium and phosphorus, bone and cartilage growth, maintenance.

3. Vitamin E: Protects cells from oxidative damage (antioxidant), reproduction and muscular function.

4. Vitamin K: Essential for blood clotting.

Keep your canine healthy and fit. Make sure he is getting the essential dog vitamins he needs!
